Congratulations to Targa Tasmania which today celebrates its 25th anniversary as an epic tarmac rally and iconic part of Tasmania’s tourism package.
Drivers and navigators travel more than 2000 kilometres through over 40 competitive stages, making Targa Tasmania the world's longest and toughest race of its kind.
2016 marks the 25th anniversary of this iconic event, and the Tasmanian Government, through Events Tasmania, has been a proud supporter since its inception. It brings to the state about 2,850 motoring enthusiasts and organisers estimate it injects around $8 million annually into Tasmania’s economy.
It’s a race that enthrals competitors and local enthusiasts alike, drawing about 150,000 fans to watch the world-class motor sport event.
The 2016 event covers Launceston, the Tamar Valley, St Helens, Sheffield, Burnie, Stanley, Strahan, New Norfolk and Hobart.
All Tasmanians are encouraged to catch a glimpse of the action as it passes through your region.
The 25-year milestone is a great achievement and is testament to the teams, organisers, sponsors and of course the hundreds of volunteers who make it possible.
