Tamar Rowing Club can look to the future with confidence

The Hodgman Liberal Government is proudly backing sports clubs which encourage strong community connections and promote a healthy lifestyle.

The Tamar Rowing Club is one of the oldest rowing clubs in Australia and during its history its clubrooms have been flooded several times.  It was particularly hard hit in the 2016 deluge.

I have been working with club officials towards a $300,000 Community Infrastructure Fund grant to build a second level on flood-proof it for the future.

Today I was proud to open this new building and congratulate Jim Guy, Alan Weeding and their team of volunteers who have spent hundreds of hours seeing this project through to fruition.

The grant has helped the club build a second level over the top of the existing clubhouse which will safely house the bar and amenities and the club’s precious history.

The existing ground floor has been modified to allow the rowing shells to be removed and for water to flow through the facility with minimal damage during future flood events.

The Tasmanian Government’s Community Infrastructure Fund is designed to build stronger local communities by supporting projects that deliver long-term economic and social benefits.

This grant will help secure the future of the Tamar Rowing Club which will enhance community and social health and well-being and provide a recreation legacy for future generations – and hopefully more Australian champions.
