Talk about Family Violence

The Liberal Government is committed to eliminating family violence because every Tasmanian has the right to be safe, especially in their homes.

We are trying to change attitudes and behaviours that lead to family violence and importantly by getting people to talk about this challenging issue.

Today’s White Ribbon community BBQ event is an opportunity for young Tasmanians to connect with the support services available.

We are encouraging them to talk with those who can best support them, either at a personal level or on behalf of others around them, in both a safe and relaxed environment.

A new practice guide is now also available to help service providers and practitioners across Tasmania better support people experiencing family violence.

It recognises that all professionals play an important role in supporting those impacted by family violence and aims to help service providers and practitioners to understand, recognise and respond to family violence and refer clients to specialised family violence services.

The practice guide was a key recommendation of the report of our Commissioner for Children and Young People, Children and Young People’s Unique Experiences of Family Violence.

The guide has been developed by the Government and is available at www.safeathome.tas.gov.au
