The Liberal Government will take Tasmania to the world during the forthcoming trade and investment mission to China.
We will build on the momentum from President Xi Jinping's visit to Tasmania and our TasInvest forum last year, which both generated unprecedented interest in Tasmania, with new opportunities for trade and investment.
We will follow up on the 10 MoUs we signed last year, which strengthened our economic and cultural ties with China, now our largest trading partner and one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
The Government delegation leaves on March 26 and returns on April 3 and will be joined at various stages by more than 20 local government, non-government businesses and enterprises, including from the Launceston and Hobart city councils, the University of Tasmania and business community. The Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Trade, Adam Brooks, is participating in the mission.
This trade and investment mission will visit Fuzhou, Xi'an, Bejing and Shanghai with forums to promote key sectors, including agriculture, aquaculture, education, energy, forestry, manufacturing, mining and tourism.
The mission will include the first of the scheduled bi-annual meetings with our sister province, Fujian, which were agreed to under a Memorandum of Understanding.
We will meet with senior members and officials from the Chinese Government to enhance inter-governmental relations, including in Antarctic affairs and the University of Tasmania's initiatives in China.
This trade mission presents an important opportunity to build on the exciting momentum generated from last year's historic events, and importantly to build even stronger ties with China for the future. For the full itinerary go to:
