Supporting Tassie Tourism

The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government is the greatest supporter of our tourism and hospitality sectors, which injects $2.5 billion into our economy and supports 42,800 jobs right across the state.

Premier, Peter Gutwein, said it was important to take proactive steps to encourage Australian travellers to consider a holiday in Tasmania over the winter months, with international visitor numbers anticipated to soften into Australia due to the current travel restrictions in response to the coronavirus.

“As a State we are well placed to respond to these challenges. That is why we are encouraging Australians to holiday at home this year through several new marketing and conversion campaigns due to roll-out between now and the end of year,” he said.

“Our Tasmania – Come Down for Air campaign is in market now, targeting the major eastern seaboard markets on the mainland and Tourism Tasmania is also working closely with Tourism Australia to leverage its own recovery package – Holiday Here this Year campaign, ensuring Tasmania is showcased.

We will also be launching a campaign to attract Australian travellers to Tasmania to enjoy everything our state has to offer during the cooler months.

“This work forms part of an in-market Response Plan that will position our State and its offerings strongly in the hearts and minds of national and international travellers in the months ahead.” Premier Gutwein said.

The Response Plan will see Tourism Tasmania redirect $2 million of its existing budget as well as an additional $1 million towards in-market promotional activity.

Member for Franklin, Nic Street, said the Tasmanian Government is committed to continuing to boost visitation in regional areas to ensure people see more of our state, stay longer and spend more while they’re here.

“Pleasingly, 67 per cent of all visitors to Tasmania are dispersing into our regional areas, which is ahead of the T21 target, demonstrating our Plan to encourage visitation to our regions is working,” Mr Street said.

“World-class attractions such as the recently re-opened Tahune Airwalk strongly supports the Government’s regional tourism strategy.

“It’s projects like this that provide a draw-card to encourage visitors to stay longer and spend more in our regional communities.”
