The Hodgman majority Liberal Government strongly supports a strong, confident and inclusive Tasmanian society where all citizens are treated fairly, with respect and without discrimination.
To support active ageing in Tasmania, the Hodgman majority Liberal Government has provided $585,000 over three years to the Council On The Ageing Tasmania to help implement initiatives under the Government’s Strong, Liveable Community: Tasmanian Active Ageing Plan 2017-2022.
One of the projects under this grant deed is to draw together current data on older Tasmanians to inform government, community and business in Tasmania to help inform decision making and raise awareness.
Today the Government is pleased to help launch COTA’s Embracing the Future Part II report.
Embracing the Future Part II details older Tasmanians’ health, relationships, cultural diversity, income, housing and employment using 2016 ABS Census and other national and state data.
Older Tasmanians have a diverse wealth of knowledge and experience and can help build a more inclusive and vibrant Tasmania, to support social and economic growth.
Due to advances in health care and quality of life, getting older is a positive thing, but requires the community, including Government, to plan for the changing needs of the Tasmanian population.
This report will help to inform the Hodgman majority Liberal Government and the community about Tasmania’s older population and to better understand the opportunities this brings to our State.
