Supporting our beekeepers and crop pollinators

The Hodgman Liberal Government is delivering on its commitment to Tasmania’s valuable beekeeping industry.

We are investing $750,000 over three years to focus on resource access, biosecurity, hive productivity, and crop pollination resilience.

The funding comprises $500,000 for selected infrastructure upgrades to improve resource access, and $250,000 for further industry development activities.

In recognition of the importance of the honey industry and pollination services we have already provided an additional $30,000 this financial year to develop the Bee Industry Futures Report and consultation with the industry is well underway.

The Report will guide the Government’s investment to help develop the industry over the next the years.

As Minister I am dedicated to growing the value of Tasmanian agriculture to $10 billion by 2050 and we cannot do this without the support of our dedicated bee keepers and crop pollinators.

As well as producing a number of specialised honeys, including the premium and exclusively Tasmanian leatherwood honey, the industry also provides a vital pollination service for the State’s fruit, vegetable and pasture seed industries.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strident supporter of our primary industries and our iconic honey bee and crop pollination industries and we are confident that the Report and the additional funding will help both industry and Government agree on a clear vision for mutual success.
