Supporting jobs in Tasmania’s cultural and creative industries

The Tasmanian Government understands the importance of the State’s cultural and creative industries and is committed to assisting the sector through the difficult times faced as a result of COVID-19.

As part of our Cultural and Creative Industries Stimulus Package, we are now delivering the new funding of $1.5 million and bringing forward $2 million of previously announced funding to assist the individuals and organisations within Tasmania’s renowned cultural sector.

Today I was delighted to announce that, as part of the first stage of the stimulus package, 61 individuals and organisations will share in more than $900,000 of funding through our Arts and Screen Digital Production Fund, Tasmanian Contemporary Music Fund and through our second accelerated Screen Development Round.

Importantly, these projects will provide employment for around 330 Tasmanian artists and screen practitioners.

Today I was joined by members of the Van Diemen’s Band, who will receive $36,000 in funding for a new music project entitled The Song of the Birds in collaboration with the Youth Chorale of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra and screen technology manufacturer, Ignite Digi.

Other projects to receive funding include:

  • the documentary A Girl’s Guide to Hunting, Fishing & Wild Cooking ($15,000 through Accelerated Screen Development Round) which will follow celebrated chef Analiese Gregory as she abandons the kitchen for a life-changing adventure in Tasmania’s wilderness; and
  • Pete Cornelius ($15,000 through Tasmanian Contemporary Music Fund) will work with Tasmanian musicians, producers and filmmakers to record and film the making of a blues and roots album.

As Minister for the Arts, I remain committed to providing the necessary support to our cultural and creative industries as Tasmania begins to recover and rebuild from the COVID-19 pandemic.

I look forward to announcing more successful recipients of our stimulus package in coming weeks and months.
