Supporting a Heart Healthy Tasmania

The Liberal Government has set a goal for Tasmania to have the healthiest population by 2025.

Groups like the Heart Foundation are vital to helping us achieve this.

Today, I was pleased to attend the Heart Foundation's Big Heart Appeal Breakfast and on behalf of the Tasmanian Government donate $50,000 to its largest annual community-led fundraising event.

It is heart-warming that some 4,000 Tasmanians have volunteered to doorknock throughout the appeal to collect public donations.

The Big Heart Appeal aims to raise $5 million nationally to continue funding critical research in the fight against cardiovascular disease.

Cardiovascular disease is the single biggest killer of Tasmanian men and women. By 2051, one in three Tasmanians is expected to be affected by the disease.

I thank the Heart Foundation for the very important service and the support it provides Tasmanians.
