Students take a stand against bullying and violence

Students across the country will stand up against bullying and violence as the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence approaches.

On Friday 17 March schools will collectively demonstrate their commitment to creating safe and supportive learning environments for all students, and I encourage all Tasmanian schools to register for this year’s day of action.

Tasmania led the country with the highest participation rate in 2016 with over 50 per cent, and it would be great to see even more schools, from across all school sectors, take part in this years National Day of Action.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to creating safe and inclusive school environments where diversity is valued, and all in the school community feel respected.

The Tasmanian Government’s $355,000 Safe Homes, Safe Families Action Plan is delivering Respectful Relationships Education, another new school resource to teach and promote respectful relationships from Kinder to Year 12, which will build on the framework currently being used by all Government schools.

As Chair of the COAG Education Council this year, I encourage schools across Australia to get involved. Raising awareness of bullying and how as a nation we can address it is important to create behavioural change in our communities.

Registration for the national day will equip schools with a range of new materials and resources to support their activities, with teaching resources for class activities and ideas for whole school events available online.
