Tasmanian Government School students have taken part in the What Matters? competition which encourages students to write about issues important to them.
The students from Years 5 to 12 have written about how they can make a difference and today I had the great pleasure of presenting the winners and runners up with their awards.
Our students will shape the future of Tasmania and competitions like this encourage the development and strengthening of literacy, community skills and creativity.
Each winner is invited to participate in a Young Writers’ Forum and to attend a competition Awards Ceremony in Sydney in September.
This is a fantastic way for our students to explore current issues, discuss them and make informed commentary on matters affecting them which they have done with great talent, energy and enthusiasm.
I would like to thank and congratulate all participants on their excellent work and insight into what matters to the next generation of Tasmanians.
