Students invited to take up reading challenge

I encourage all Tasmanian students to take up the Premier’s Reading Challenge and read 10 books in 10 weeks.

A record number of Tasmanian students completed the challenge last year, and I’m sure we can do even better this year.

More than 31,000 Tasmanian students took part last year and more than 14,000 completed it – the best completion rate since the challenge began in 2008.

Reading is one of the most important things we can do in life. We should try to read each and every day.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a great way to encourage young Tasmanians to read regularly and begin a life-long love of books and reading.

Books are essential for learning and understanding, and they can open a window to adventures and exciting ideas from anywhere in the world and beyond.

Everyone who enters the challenge this year will receive a bookmark, with students who submit online book reviews in the running to receive one of six weekly $15 book voucher prizes.

Students who complete the Challenge will be awarded a certificate and be in with a chance to win one of three $100 book voucher prizes.

The eighth annual Premier’s Reading Challenge will begin on June 9 and end August 14.
