Students Excelling in History Challenge

Congratulations to five Tasmanian students who have won six prizes in the 2014 National History Challenge Awards, more prizes than any other state.

The National History Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore history in a rigorous, engaging and exciting way, with this year's theme 'Changing Perspectives' giving students a broad canvas to explore a range of stories.

Tasmania has a proud history of involvement and success in the challenge, and this year was no different. Our award winning students are:

• Year 7 – National Winner: Raphaela Corney, Taroona High School
• Years Prep to 6 – National Winner: Angus Christie, The Hutchins School
• Australia's Heritage – National Winner: Alice Curtain, Ogilvie High School
• Women's History – National Winner: Beatrice Thurston-Regan, Taroona High School
• Museum Exhibit Years Prep 8 – National Winner: Tristan Meffre, Princes Street Primary School
• Australia's Wartime Experiences – National Winner: Angus Christie, The Hutchins School.

An additional congratulations must go to Angus Christie for winning the Premier's Medal and Prize for the Tasmanian Young Historian 2014.

The five students will travel to Canberra in December to be presented with their National Awards in Mural Hall at Parliament House.

Our Tasmanian Young Historian, Angus Christie now goes on to compete for the prize of National Young Historian 2014, which will be announced in Canberra on December 2.
