Strengthening our biosecurity

Modernising our biosecurity legislation is a key part of strengthening Biosecurity Tasmania along with our increased investment which is boosting front line services, doubling the detector dog teams at airports, ports and mail centres and building the Powranna truck wash.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is continuing to work with industry groups to get the draft Biosecurity Bill right.

I want to ensure this important legislation is thoroughly consulted and stakeholders have ample opportunity for considered input into the Bill.

The Bill will streamline seven existing Acts into one piece of framework legislation - cutting red tape, reducing duplication and enabling us to better manage the future risks of pests, weeds and diseases.

Industry feedback indicates work has progressed well to get the Bill to this point and they need more time to finalise consultation with their members.

The Hodgman Government is listening to industry who want to take the time it needs to progress this very important reform to improve our biosecurity system for the future.
