‘Stop. Look. Listen. Think.’ - That’s what Tasmania’s school children and parents are being asked to do when the school returns for the year this week.
And it’s a vital message for drivers as well.
Road safety is an absolute priority for the Hodgman Liberal Government and while returning to school can be an exciting time for students, it can be a stressful time for parents and it also requires extra vigilance with busy intersections and hundreds of additional vehicles back on the roads.
It is vital that all road users are alert and patient around school zones because all children, parents and drivers have a part to play in keeping our school children safe.
That is what the new ‘Stop. Look. Listen. Think.’ campaign from the Road Safety Advisory Council is all about - encouraging school children to be safe going to or from school and making sure drivers slow down and stay alert.
Children and drivers need to take extra care, not just in school zones, but wherever they see a school bus, especially on country roads.
‘Stop. Look. Listen. Think.’ will be highly visible reminder in and around school zones with the school bus fleet prominently featuring the message so it can’t be missed.
A new ‘Stop. Look. Listen. Think.’ TV commercial airing over the next fortnight will also reinforce the importance of patience and vigilance in our school zones and parents are urged to watch it with their children and discuss why it is important to stay safe.
School children can learn more about being safe on our roads and also have the chance to win an iPad in the process at www.rsac.tas.gov.au/roadsafekids
