Stimulus Package for the Central Coast

The Hodgman Government is rolling out a $100 million stimulus package across the North and North West of the State to boost the Northern Tasmanian economy and support local jobs.

Today, I joined my Braddon colleagues to unveil a range of projects to be rolled out across the Central Coast.

Importantly, the notorious intersection of James, Grove and Gollan Streets will be high on the list of infrastructure upgrades.

Not only will this project create jobs, it will provide a vital long-term safety upgrade.

Road upgrades are a key feature of the projects put forward by the Central Coast Council and we will work with Council to improve Creamery Road and Nine Mile Road as well as car parking at the Quadrant.

Facilities at Anzac Park will be improved with the aim of building better infrastructure that will benefit the whole community.

All up, more than $1.2 million will be invested into the region and the Government will work with the Council to get shovels in the ground as soon as possible.

The Northern Economic Stimulus is all about creating jobs and unlocking $100 million worth of investment and long-term infrastructure for the North and North West.

Local contractors will be used in the redevelopment and once the work is done, the local community will have much better infrastructure.  It’s a win-win – more jobs and better facilities.

So far, eight councils have applied for funding under the council loan scheme and all up applications total more than $40 million.  The council loan scheme is open until the end of March and I would encourage other North-West councils to get their applications in.

More projects will be announced shortly.

The five projects announced today are:

  • Anzac Park upgrades ($200,000)
  • Creamery Road upgrade ($280,000)
  • Nine Mile Road upgrade ($250,000)
  • James, Grove and Gollan Streets intersection upgrade ($250,000)
  • Quadrant Carpark Stage 2 ($250,000)
