Statewide Junior Anglers Day

Young anglers are encouraged to get out on Sunday at some of Tasmania’s local inland fisheries and try their hand at trout fishing.

Statewide Junior Anglers Day, a free event co-ordinated by the Anglers Alliance Tasmania, will allow anglers aged 17 years and under to try their luck at the sport.

The Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) is supporting the event by stocking fish in the venues and providing an exemption to allow junior anglers aged 14 to 17 years of age to fish without an angling licence.

The following venues will be open on Sunday 30th October between 10:00am and 3:00pm, where young anglers will be able to hone their trout fishing skills under the guidance of experienced anglers.

  • Frombergs Dam, Bass Highway, Ulverstone
  • Taylors Dam (opposite Anvers), Latrobe
  • Waverley Lake (near Waverley Primary School), Launceston
  • New Norfolk Anglers Junior Pond, 10 Acre Lane, Bushy Park

Trout fishing is a much loved pastime for many Tasmanian families, and Junior Anglers Day helps introduce the next generation of keen Tasmanian anglers to the sport.

Tasmania is renowned for its fantastic recreational fishing opportunities in both fresh and saltwater and I encourage families to take advantage of the free trout fishing access Statewide Junior Anglers Day provides.
