In September this year the Premier and I will lead the South Asia trade mission, the Tasmanian Government’s first official trade mission to India and Sri Lanka. The mission will also include investment, business and diplomatic engagements in Indonesia and Singapore.
Today at the Asia Pacific International Education Forum in Hobart, I launched the Tasmanian Prospectus for South Asia to support business development for the mission and provide stakeholders with an overview of Tasmania’s key sectors and comparative advantages.
The Prospectus sets out our strategy of engagement with the emerging economies of South Asia, which offer tremendous long term growth prospects and an exciting array of trade and investment opportunities for Tasmanian enterprises.
Today’s Asia Pacific International Education Forum and the Australian Council for Private Education and Training Conference on 25 and 26 August in Hobart are sponsored by the Tasmanian Government and bring together national and international experts in education, training and business to discuss knowledge and skills innovation and new market opportunities.
In particular, there is a lot of interest in the Tasmanian education and training sector from India as it embarks on a process to upskill more than 400 million people by 2022 through the Skill India campaign.
Education and training is just one of a number of exciting trade and investment opportunities that we will be pursuing on the South Asia trade mission this September.
