Small Museums and Collections program now open

Arts Tasmania's Small Museums and Collections program recognises the important role that our community museums and collections play as custodians of our state's unique cultural heritage.

The Small Museums and Collections program offers assistance towards the curatorial and collection management practices of smaller public and community collections and museums in Tasmania.

The program can provide both grants and the allocation of time with a professional Roving Curator.

A Roving Curator can provide an injection of expertise to organisations which are largely reliant on volunteers. They can assist organisations with areas such as the care and handling of objects in the collection, preparation for an exhibition, training of volunteers in best museum practice and the development of museum policies.

Applications for grants in this program can be made for a wide range of purposes, including the purchase of cataloguing software, consumable preservation materials, the design and printing of interpretation materials and the engagement of other museum professionals, such as conservators.

Applications for projects to be undertaken in 2016 close on Monday 6 July 2015.

For further information on the program please visit www.arts.tas.gov.au/smallmuseums or call Arts Tasmania on 03 6165 6666. Information sessions in Burnie, Launceston and Hobart will also be scheduled for April.
