Sleeping out for the Salvos

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to reducing homelessness because we believe every Tasmanian deserves to have a roof over their head.

Unfortunately, for some, sleeping rough is a reality.

Tonight I will be participating in the annual ‘Sleeping out for the Salvos’ event in Hobart. This event will raise awareness and funds for the Salvos unique Street2Home (S2H) program.

S2H helps people who would not, or cannot otherwise use mainstream services – for reasons that may include undiagnosed / unmedicated mental health issues, problematic substance use, and physical or intellectual disability.

While there is no way that this one night sleep-out compares to what some vulnerable Tasmanians go through, every dollar raised through the event counts to help make their lives a bit easier.

The Salvation Army has long been an outstanding advocate and support service for vulnerable Tasmanians, and the Government is pleased to work alongside community sector organisations like the Salvos to achieve the best outcomes to help vulnerable Tasmanians.

Everyone should be able to expect help when they need it most.

That's why we are progressing plans for more than 900 new homes for vulnerable Tasmanians.

Our Plan to Build Your Future goes even further with a target to triple that number of affordable homes by 2025.

By offering more affordable housing we can improve the lives of Tasmanians who need it most and take Tasmania to the next level.
