Sleeping out for the Salvos

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to delivering more affordable housing for vulnerable Tasmanians.

Tonight, I am pleased to be participating in the annual Sleeping out for the Salvos fundraising event in Hobart.

This event sees participants sleep rough for one night to raise funds for the Salvation Army to support its assistance for those who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness.

The Salvation Army has long been on the frontline in providing support and advocacy for people in our community who do not have a home or who are at risk of becoming homeless.

The Government is pleased to work alongside community service organisations like the Salvos in helping vulnerable Tasmanians.

Only this week we launched Tasmania’s Affordable Housing Strategy 2015-25 and a four-year Action Plan, which will deliver more than 900 new homes and provide affordable housing for 1600 vulnerable Tasmanian households.

We will achieve this by working closely with community service organisations in Tasmania like the Salvation Army who share our commitment to addressing homelessness.
