Sky scrapers out of major projects legislation

The Hodgman Government has a Plan to Build Your Future.

A key part of our Plan is encouraging investment, creating jobs and growing the economy.

That’s why we are developing draft laws that change how major projects are considered.

The aim of the draft laws is to streamline the approval process and provide greater certainty, while also requiring that all relevant and necessary approvals including environmental, Aboriginal and heritage approvals must be granted by the relevant regulators.

The Government has been clear: the draft laws make certain that sky scrapers can’t be considered as part of the major projects framework as we believe decisions about building heights are best made by the local community through their local council.

These draft laws will provide certainty of process, independent expert assessment and ensure Tasmania is a great place to invest, but they will also protect what makes Tasmania so special.

The draft laws are online and we welcome feedback from the community.  Anyone who wants to share their view on the draft laws has until 29 January to make a submission.
