Shorten short on bridge funny money

Under Labor leader Bill Shorten, Tasmanians would be short changed.

Under Mr Shorten’s plan, we’d get less than a quarter of a bridge.

A new Bridgewater Bridge will form part of the next State and Federal Road funding agreement, due to commence in 2019.

The cost of the new Bridge is $576 million. Projects like this are funded 80/20, so Mr Shorten’s $100 million is $360 million short of what’s actually needed.

It’s a complete con.

Tasmanian Labor had 16 years to do something about this but they failed. John Howard even gave Tasmanian Labor the money to build a new Bridgewater Bridge, but the money vanished.

The Hodgman Liberal Government will deliver where Labor has failed, but if Mr Shorten wants to be taken seriously, he needs to do better than this.
