Short Stay Accommodation Bill introduced

Today I was pleased to table the Short Stay Accommodation Bill 2018, which will serve two important purposes: to ensure everyone is playing by the rules; and to paint a clear picture of short stay accommodation across Tasmania.

Tasmanians have embraced the sharing economy and the Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to ensuring it continues to play a positive role in our visitor economy and community.

We’ve listened to the community and local government sector calls for meaningful data and to ensure compliance with our existing regulations.

We have consulted widely on the Bill and have confidence that it provides the rights checks and balances that will give us a better understanding of short stay accommodation market and inform policy and improve transparency the rapidly changing  sharing economy.

This Bill ensures we have the balance right, so that Tasmanians and visitors alike can continue to share in its benefits.
