Sending Tasmanian game technology around the world

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is a strong supporter of the Tasmanian game development sector, which is increasingly making a mark on the world stage and exporting Tasmanian intellectual property to devices around the world.

Today it was my pleasure to launch Giant Margarita’s new game for the Nintendo Switch, Squidgies Takeover! – a highly entertaining game that can be enjoyed by children, but challenging enough for the most experienced players.

The Government contributed $24,600 to the game, through Screen Tasmania’s Game Development Program, becoming the third game from Giant Margarita to be funded and released after the highly successful Party Golf and Party Crashers.

Giant Margarita is a unique blend of commercial business and educational institution with students from the University of Tasmania joining their teachers in working professionally on the game’s design to fast-track their careers and receive credits on released titles.

I was also pleased to announce that Screen Tasmania has provided $7,600 of industry development funding to enable local gaming industry organisation, Tas Game Makers (TasGM) to build their industry’s capacity and capability.
