The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to improving Tasmania’s health system, and we are working with our Federal colleagues to deliver positive benefits for Tasmanians.
We have taken the necessary decisions to reform our health system which has increased the safety of our health services and reduced waiting lists.
Today, on behalf of the Tasmanian Government, Premier Will Hodgman signed the Heads of Agreement for the new National Health Agreement with the Prime Minister, the Hon Malcolm Turnbull.
This lays the groundwork for the National Health Agreement, which is a new funding agreement between the State, Territory and Federal Governments. We expect this agreement to deliver $2.3 billion in federal health funding to Tasmania through to 2025.
This agreement provides the long-term funding certainty that Tasmania’s health system needs. It supports the Hodgman Government’s record commitment of $757 million over the next six years, over and above the $7 billion of health funding achieved in our last term of Government.
Tasmania joins New South Wales, Western Australia, South Australia and the ACT by signing up to the agreement.
