SE Asia trade mission to focus on investment and jobs

Tomorrow I will be leading a ten day trade mission with the Minister for State Growth Matthew Groom to look at increasing new export opportunities for Tasmania with some of the world’s biggest and fastest-growing economies.

Strong engagement with China has resulted in an increase in exports to that country of nearly 80 percent in the 12 months to June.

This will be the first time Tasmania has had a trade mission to India, we are breaking new ground which I believe over the longer term can result in similar export opportunities for Tasmanian businesses, opening new markets for products and creating jobs.

The focus will be on promoting Tasmania’s competitive strengths – our tourism and hospitality industry, our premium food and beverages, advanced manufacturing, tertiary education, vocational training and renewable energy expertise.

The trip will include meetings with prospective investors, industry delegates and high level Government officials.

This trade mission is an investment in Tasmania’s future and another example of what the Government is doing to grow our economy and encourage job creation.
