The Hodgman Liberal Government has a goal for Tasmania to have the healthiest population in the nation by 2025.
We recognise that healthy habits should start young, which is why as part of our Healthy Tasmania Five Year Strategic Plan the Government is providing $2 million over four years to support health related initiatives in schools.
I am pleased to announce that 47 Tasmanian Government Schools have successfully applied to take part in our Student Health Initiative which encourages partnerships between schools and community organisations to meet health and wellbeing needs.
Applications had to relate to one of four focus areas:
The Healthy Tasmania Strategic Plan is a whole-of-government policy, and the Student Health Initiative is a key example of cross-portfolio action needed to address poor health outcomes in our community.
Round two of applications will open in mid-September.
