There is no better foundation to Build Tasmania’s Future on than education. We know that supporting students health helps their ability to learn, which is why the Hodgman Liberal Government’s State Budget includes $4 million over four years to continue our successful School Health Nurses program.
Next week an extra 7.7 FTE nursing positions will be advertised which will bring the total School Health Nurse’s to 29.7 across the state, operating across 108 Tasmanian schools state-wide.
School Health Nurses are making a positive impact on our students educational experience, supporting them in a number of areas from mental health to body image and healthy relationships, as well as the delivery of local, state and national health initiatives.
Working closely with other specialists including school psychologists, speech pathologists, social workers, vision and deaf services, autism consultants and physical impairment coordinators, nurses support families and communities to create positive health outcomes for students.
With the Budget back in balance we can continue to invest in the most significant improvements to our education system in decades.
The $4 million investment in the program is part of the Tasmanian Government’s $17.8 million Budget package of student support initiatives, which will assist teachers and other professionals who work with students to further improve learning outcomes and employment opportunities for students.
Applications for the new School Health Nurse positions open on Wednesday 12 July 2017. For more information go to www.jobs.tas.gov.au.
