School Health Nurse Program extended

There is no better foundation to Build Your Future on than education, and the Hodgman Liberal Government is aiming high to improve education in this State.

To help reach our target of increasing the retention rate of students from Years 11-12 to be at or above the national average by 2022, we are supporting their health to help them learn and stay at school.

The Hodgman Liberal Government’s 2017/18 State Budget includes $4 million over four years to continue our successful School Health Nurses program into Government District Schools.

Today we are advertising 4.3 FTE School Health Nurse positions, bringing the total staffing number to 29.7 nurses across the State, operating across 108 Tasmanian schools state wide.

Since July 2015, our School Health Nurses have been working across targeted primary and secondary schools, supporting students in areas from mental health, to body image and healthy relationships, as well as the delivery of local, state and national health initiatives.

Working closely with other specialists including school psychologists, speech pathologists, social workers, vision and deaf services, autism consultants and physical impairment coordinators, nurses support families and communities to create positive health outcomes for students.

Applications for the new School Health Nurse positions are available at www.jobs.tas.gov.au.
