School farm long-term future secure

The long-term future of the Jordan River school farm has been secured on its current site after a constructive meeting with the Brighton Council today.

The Liberal Government made very clear that we support the current location of the school, because it helps to bridge the gap between rural and urban Tasmania, and provides an accessible, hands-on learning experience for students.

We welcome Brighton Mayor Tony Foster's commitment to seek a rezoning of the land on which the school is situated to ensure the long term security of the school farm on the current site.

Together with the decision yesterday to withdraw a notification requiring the removal of animals from the farm, this demonstrates that the Council has listened to community concerns and is willing to work with the Government.

The Liberal Government is committed to school farms and clearly the community agrees that these are valued education assets.
