Samsung washing machine recall - checks urged after fire in Tasmania

Following a recent house fire in Karoola, in Northern Tasmania, I am urging all Tasmanians with Samsung top loader washing machines to check their model number and be aware of a recall of certain models.

Fortunately, the Karoola residents were able to remove the appliance from the house before the fire could cause further damage.

Consumer Building and Occupational Services advises that in some Samsung top loader models moisture may penetrate the electrical connections of the top loader washing machine causing a fire hazard.

The models subjected to the recall were manufactured between 2010 and 2013 and include model numbers; SW75V9WIP; SW65V9WIP; SW70SPWIP; SW80SPWIP; WA85GWGIP andWA85GWWIP.

Customers with affected models should immediately disconnect the appliance and contact Samsung on 1800 239 655 to verify if the machine is affected by the recall.

Further information is available at www.recalls.gov.au or for further advice contact Consumer Affairs on 1300 654 449
