Safe Numbers at Police Stations

The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government is committed to keeping Tasmanians safe and ensuring the wellbeing and safety of our police officers across the state.

The Commissioner of Police Darren Hine and the President of the Police Association of Tasmania Colin Riley joined me today to announce they have agreed to formally allocate safe staffing levels at 24-hour police stations.

This announcement will see changes to the management of staffing levels at Tasmania’s seven 24-hour stations, designed to improve safety, wellbeing, response and ensure rostered shift numbers at 24-hour stations do not fall below specified levels.

This Government’s commitment to recruit an additional 125 police officers by 2022 is the key to implementing safe roster numbers at the States’ seven 24-hour police stations.

I congratulate the Commissioner of Police, his executive and the Police Association for their collaboration and support in achieving such a positive outcome for our people and the community.
