Rosny College Science Upgrade

The upgrade of the Rosny College science facilities has created a state-of-the-art learning space that is expected to encourage more young Tasmanians into this exciting field.

Today, it was my pleasure to officially open the new $3 million State Government funded facility.

The upgrades include a refurbishment of the science labs with the addition of control systems, safety flooring, safety equipment, preparation rooms with safe chemical storage, new tools and suitable lab equipment.

It has also created biology and life science facilities that support students to study the living world, and allow them to study plants, animals and humans in great detail to better prepare for industries like agriculture.

It also boasts the provision for purpose built stations in the electronics lab to ensure students can focus on investigating and creating electronics.

Already more than 300 students study science at Rosny College, including biology, chemistry, physics, electronics and life sciences.

That's expected to grow with the addition of this fantastic new facility, and again as the college grows its bonds with partners in the local industry to further support and prepare students.

These new facilities will certainly go a long way to ensuring the students are well equipped to make the most of a growing number of job opportunities in this exciting area. Congratulations to all involved in delivering these upgrades for students, and in particular the Department of Education's Project Team, BPSM Architects and Hutchinson Builders for bringing this new learning space to life.
