The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to safely maintaining and upgrading the State’s road network.
Over the forward estimates we are investing $733 million in our roads, with more than a third of this committed to maintenance, including line-marking and improving road surfaces.
Much work is underway now, including seven sites on the Midland Highway, and on the South Arm Highway, the intersection of the East Derwent Highway at the Bowen Bridge and the Esk Main Road between Avoca and St Marys.
We understand, however, that delays caused by roadworks can frustrate motorists, especially when they are unexpected. This can also influence some motorists to take unacceptable risks, and to otherwise drive dangerously.
That’s why the Government is launching Roadworks Roundup to make the latest information on roadworks available to the public before they travel.
Just a click away on the Roads and Traffic section of the Department of State Growth website, Roadworks Roundup will provide the community with weekly updates on all State network roadwork sites where delays, reduced speed limits or other altered driving conditions can be expected.
The Department is also investigating a smartphone app, which could provide real-time information on road and weather conditions.
We appreciate the patience of Tasmanian motorists who understand that roadworks are necessary to improve safety and travelling times, and we hope that Roadworks Roundup will be of assistance to those planning their journeys.
