Safer roads a priority for Hodgman Government

The Government welcomes the RACT’s wish list on road funding priorities.

We are committed to ensuring Tasmanian roads are as safe as possible, which is why we have undertaken significant road upgrades since coming to Government including to the Midland, Bass, Huon and Murchison Highways.

As part of our plan to Build Your Future, the Government has committed to increase our long-term average investment in public infrastructure - including roads - by 20 per cent over four years.  We have also committed to upgrading all of Tasmania’s primary freight and passenger roads to a minimum 3 star AusRAP safety rating by 2040, as the RACT proposes.

I can also confirm we expect the Bridgewater Bridge will be funded in the next five-year Federal funding agreement in 2019.

Our strong budget position means we can invest in this critical infrastructure and these commitments will ensure Tasmanians have the roads they need so that they can travel safely and spend more time with their families,

We will have more to say on how we will achieve these targets between now and the election.
