Public consultation has now commenced on the Review of Education Regulation as part of the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to improving educational outcomes.
A Discussion Paper has been released, with stakeholders and Tasmanian community members encouraged to engage in the consultation process.
Through this review we are ensuring that there is a modernised education regulation in Tasmania, which better meets the needs of children and young people and prepares them well for the future.
I announced a review of the framework in the 2019-20 Budget, to look at the Office of the Education Registrar, the Office of Tasmanian Assessment, Standards and Certification, and the Teachers Registration Board Tasmania.
The aim of the review is not to change what the entities do, rather it is about improving how they are delivering their existing functions including:
In order to achieve these, the Steering Committee will consult widely so that it can develop options and provide a recommendation to me on a preferred model and a phased implementation plan.
Public consultation on the Discussion Paper will close on 4 October 2020.
