Resumption of two-ferry Bruny Service

Bruny Island has become one of Tasmania’s most loved tourist destinations, and in anticipation of the summer tourist season, the Hodgman Liberal Government is ensuring the ferry service is able to cater for tourists and locals alike.

The two vessel Bruny ferry service will resume this weekend, and will continue until the end of March 2017.

The dual ferry model comes after a trial initiated by the Tasmanian Government in 2014 to test the demand of the service during the peak tourism season.

Thanks to the Liberal Government’s investment of up to $95,000 per year, an extra 327 car spaces will be available per day for the next six months (except for Sundays, which will not have an early morning sailing).

This is the second year of the six month two-ferry service, with the additional sailings to allow better access to and from the island for residents, as well as boosting the confidence of the local business community with increased visitor numbers.

Already, the Government has been in conversations to start the process for the next ferry contract post 2018.

The Liberal Government is dedicated to the expansion of our world renowned tourism industry, and we will continue to strategically invest in the sector to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and reach our target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to the state each year by 2020.
