I have taken the very difficult decision to step down from my role as Minister.
The decision was based on recent medical advice regarding further surgery as a result of complications associated with my cochlear implant. I have been fighting a reoccurring infection associated with the graft protecting the implant and once I am free of any signs of infection, I will need surgery to replace the graft.
While the challenges are resolvable and I am confident I can continue to effectively undertake my duties as an active local Liberal Member for Franklin, there remains an uncertain timeframe for a complete recovery, including post-surgery.
With more time to focus on my electorate and my recovery, I’m confident this is the right decision for my colleagues, my portfolios, my constituency and importantly, my long term health.
It has been an honour to serve in Cabinet for five years. I thank the Premier sincerely for that opportunity and I look forward to continuing to actively contribute to the community and the Hodgman Liberal Team.
