A candlelight vigil to remember those who have died at the hands of family violence will be held this evening at 5:30pm at Parliament House Lawns in Hobart.
The vigil gives us the opportunity to recognise the strength and courage of survivors of violence, and remember and honour those who have tragically lost their lives.
By lighting a candle we show our unity and opposition against the unacceptable scourge of family violence in our community.
The vigil is also a call to action for individuals and the community as a whole, to speak out against family violence, and encourage those experiencing family violence to seek support.
Together, we can help stop the cycle of family violence, and we will continue to spread the message that family violence is totally unacceptable and a crime.
Eliminating family violence is a top priority for the Hodgman Liberal Government, and under Safe Homes, Safe Families, Tasmania’s Family Violence Action Plan 2015-2020, an additional $26 million has been committed to address family violence in Tasmania, on top of existing funding.
The Tasmanian Government is committed to bringing family violence out from behind closed doors, holding perpetrators to account and focussing on prevention and early intervention.
