Remembering the Victims of Road Trauma

A memorial service in Hobart today has remembered all victims of road trauma; recognising that it has touched the lives of Tasmanians from all walks of life.

As part of National Road Safety Week, we remember not only those who have died or suffered life-changing injuries, but also their families and friends, our emergency and health services, and everyone impacted by serious crashes.

The service and the yellow ribbons that symbolise this week are important reminders of why we all need to do more to be safer on our roads.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of National Road Safety Week as we are committed to working with the community to reduce the incidence of serious injury crashes and save lives.

This year we are focusing each day on one of the “Fatal Five” causes of serious injuries on our roads, with today being tiredness.

The old, confronting message is still true: Drowsy Drivers Die.

All Tasmanians should reflect this week on their own behaviour on the road, and consider what they can do to help prevent serious injury crashes.

Together, we can reduce our road toll and spare families across our State the pain of road trauma that too many continue to live with today.
