Remember biosecurity when buying online

Tasmanians are being reminded to check biosecurity requirements when ordering produce online from interstate and overseas suppliers.

While our focus is rightly on ensuring the health and wellbeing of all Tasmanians during the current COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to remember that strict biosecurity requirements remain in place.

I encourage Tasmanians to shop local wherever possible. Tasmania has some of the best produce in the world and buying locally will support our important agriculture, aquaculture and wild-capture fisheries producers during this difficult time.

If you do buy online, remember that strict biosecurity requirements apply when ordering produce from interstate and overseas suppliers.

All interstate mail entering Tasmania is thoroughly screened by Biosecurity Tasmania for the presence of biosecurity risk material. This involves the use of detector dogs, physical inspections and x-ray technology.

All prohibited biosecurity risk material found in mail arrivals will be seized and destroyed, and serious penalties can apply.
