Referral to Privileges Committee

The Government supports the referral of Adam Brooks to the Privileges Committee of the Parliament.

The Privileges Committee is the appropriate body to consider whether the findings of the Integrity Commission Report constitute a breach of privileges or the Standing Orders of the House.

As I said yesterday following the tabling of the Integrity Commission report, these are serious matters and they have led to Mr Brooks losing his Cabinet position, not being considered for Cabinet since, and not being considered for Cabinet in the foreseeable future. He has also lost the position of Government Whip and Deputy Chair of Committees, and the Government is also supporting the referral to the Privileges Committee.

I’ve been clear in saying that Mr Brooks’ actions were very disappointing and fell short of my expectations, and he has paid a heavy price for his conduct.
