Reduction in MAIB premiums now helping Tasmanians

The Hodgman Government is committed to reducing the cost of living for Tasmanians.

I am very pleased that the Motor Accidents Insurance Board’s (MAIB) reduction in premiums has now taken effect, resulting in a direct saving of $24, or a significant 7.5 per cent, for every Tasmanian motorist paying the standard motor car premium.

These premium reductions now make Tasmanian premiums the lowest in Australia, and we have ensured the savings are going directly back into the pockets of every Tasmanian registering a vehicle.

This reduction is possible because of a number of factors, including a reduction in claim numbers and costs that reflects the Government’s ongoing road safety improvements, infrastructure works, education campaigns and enforcement activities.

MAIB continues to provide significant contributions to a wide range of community organisations across the State, with in excess of $5 million provided to further road safety, injury management and broader community support.
