Redevelopment of Wrest Point Casino

The Government welcomes Federal Group’s announcement that it intends to redevelop Wrest Point Casino.

This confirms that confidence in the Tasmanian economy is strong and that the boom in visitor numbers is driving economic growth, investment and job creation right around the State.

The proposed redevelopment is just one of many projects underway in Hobart, including the $45 million Crowne Plaza hotel being built in Liverpool Street above Myer, the redevelopment of Parliament Square and Fragrance Group starting work on a $35 million 296-room hotel in Macquarie Street, which will be Tasmania’s largest hotel, to name a few.

And of course, David Walsh has also outlined an exciting proposal for MONA.

Obviously, whether or not this proposal goes ahead is entirely a matter for Federal Group, but the Government hopes this investment would take place irrespective of what might happen with the gaming deed. As we’ve consistently said, the deed expires in 2023 and we won’t be rushing to a decision.
