Red tape reduction Bills pass Lower House

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to cutting red tape to reduce the cost of doing business in Tasmania and help create jobs.

Today, we successfully passed two Bills through the House of Assembly that are part of our suite of ongoing reforms aimed at reducing the cost and burden of unnecessary regulation.

By increasing the threshold at which incorporated associations need to be audited, the Associations Incorporation Amendment Bill will save about 3000 not-for-profit community organisations as much as $900,000.

The Redundant Legislation Appeal Bill, meanwhile, is the first of its kind for 16 years and will remove 114 Acts from the books.

The Liberal Government is serious about cutting red tape and we will continue to work to identify opportunities to make a real difference for Tasmanians who are frustrated by unnecessary and costly regulation.

In stark contrast, Labor and the Greens failed in government to even recognise that red tape was an issue that needed to be addressed, and even now have nothing positive to contribute.

I would urge the Labor-Green opposition to get on board.
