JOINT RELEASE

Assistant Minister for Home Affairs Linda Reynolds and Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman have announced the opening of the Community Recovery and Resilience Grants.

The grants will further support southern Tasmanian communities affected by the extreme weather event that occurred on 10 and 11 May 2018.

Local government, non-profit organisations and businesses with an ABN are invited to apply for funding to deliver projects and initiatives that will support areas most impacted by the event - the Derwent Valley, Glenorchy City, Hobart City and Kingborough municipalities.

Premier Hodgman said that the Commonwealth and Tasmanian governments are supporting the long-term recovery of communities impacted by the extreme weather event.

“A total of $500,000 will be made available to fund a range of initiatives, including preparedness and emergency planning projects, community resilience and capacity building, and community awareness and education programs,” Mr Hodgman said.

Assistant Minister Reynolds, who has responsibility for Commonwealth disaster assistance, said that the locally-led recovery initiatives will greatly benefit affected communities.

“This grants program will go a long way to assist local governments and community groups with the ongoing recovery effort while also improving the region’s resilience against these extreme weather events,” Ms Reynolds said.

The grants program is being funded under the joint Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), as part of the $9.67 million Community Recovery Fund that was announced last week.

Guidelines and application forms are available at www.tasalert.com/recovery. Applications must be submitted by close of business on 9 November 2018.
