Recognition for Human Rights Champions

The Tasmanian Human Rights Awards celebrate the beginning of Human Rights Week in Tasmania.

The awards recognise the contribution of individuals and organisations that promote, protect and fulfil human rights and equality across the whole state.

Congratulations to all the nominees and winners acknowledged at yesterday's awards ceremony, and thank you on behalf of all Tasmanians for your extraordinary contribution to our state and the lives of those you've reached out to.

The winners include:

  • A Fairer World School Award: St James Catholic College
  • Human Rights Youth Award: Emilie McDonnell
    Highly commended: Oliver Hovenden and Annie Chessells
  • Human Rights LGBTI Cultural Awareness Award: Andrew Badcock
    Highly commended: Caleb Nichols-Mansell
  • Angus Downie Print Journalism Award: Caroline Tang
  • Multicultural award: The Bridging Visa Social Club, in particularly the contribution of Mieka Tabart
  • Human Rights Organisation Award: Launceston Human Library
  • Robin Hood AM Sport Award: Wynyard Yacht Club, in particular the contribution of Neal Rodwell
  • Lucy Henry Human Rights Award for Mental Health Focussed Activity: Dannii Lane
    Highly commended: Zac Lockhart
  • Human Rights Individual Award: Jeremy Ball
    Highly commended: Phillipa McCormack

Human rights are the cornerstone of a strong, inclusive and opportunity filled society.

The Liberal Government will continue to work towards a fairer, more accepting and inclusive Tasmania.
