Tasmania has a lot to celebrate as part of National Skills Week when it comes to our nation-leading, diverse and job-creating vocational education and training industry.
Now more than ever, the Tasmanian Government is committed to ensuring we have the skilled workforce needed to support our economy as we rebuild from the impacts of COVID-19.
That’s why we have introduced a range of measures which support and create Tasmanian jobs for those who have been impacted by the pandemic.
Through our $6.3 million Rapid Response Skills Initiative, eligible job seekers are able to immediately access up to $3000 towards the cost of training and up to $500 for employment advice.
‘Skill Up’ is providing a range of low or no cost online short courses through TasTAFE to help boost peoples skills to enhance their employability.
Importantly, through JobTrainer we are partnering with the Federal Government to invest $21 million to deliver up to seven thousand additional free or low cost training places for Tasmanians across public and private providers – this is more than double what Labor are proposing.
Labor also want to tie students to only one training provider, effectively restricting the number of qualifications and placements.
Now is not the time to restrict learning.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government will deliver the maximum number of low cost or fee free placements for Tasmanians by utilising both public and private providers.
This is much more reliable than the unbudgeted thought bubble Labor are proposing.
