Recognising our volunteer ambulance officers

National Volunteer Week May 21-27

Our hardworking and devoted Volunteer Ambulance Officers make an invaluable contribution to supporting medical emergency response services in Tasmania.

These volunteer men and women play a key role in helping Ambulance Tasmania provide the outstanding services it does statewide.

This year, we will improve our support for the vital work our volunteer ambulance officers do through the Hodgman Liberal Government’s $800,000 a year Volunteer Support Package.

This package focuses on providing Ambulance Tasmania’s volunteers with more training, equipment and resources to help them as they generously serve our community.

The support package also includes:

  • More reimbursement of out of pocket expenses.
  • Formal recognition within Ambulance Tasmania’s corporate structure, through the employment of a Superintendent of Volunteer Support and Coordination, and 3 regional volunteer training coordinators.
  • Reviewing operational responsibilities to ensure all volunteer stations have support from a Branch Station Officer.

We are also working to ensure our volunteers are certified for the first aid training they have undertaken.

We all benefit from our Ambulance Tasmania volunteers, who dedicate more than 25,000 hours a month to helping their fellow Tasmanians.

I have personally written to each of our volunteers to thank them for their selfless contribution. They should receive these letters throughout National Volunteer Week.

In the coming weeks, I will meet as many of our volunteers as possible to extend my thanks in person.
